Rebel Youths and the Fashion of Smoking

Yzunchho Limbu,

Smoking is not just because of frustration in the present days but also considered to be a highly acceptable fashion trend in Nepal.

Fashion World With a Branded Mind

Yzunchho Limbu,

Fashion or not, branded wears and accessories have been the top talks among the people. But of course, branded items sure take the credit in the fashion world. It’s been like a red carpet ahead one’s way and to define one’s personality.
Nutan Limbu says that if one is rich, then, of course brands could be important. But now that it has taken up the fashion world, brands should be valued. She says, “People do buy branded stuffs abroad. It’s good to have at least a pair of branded shoes or bag. Most of the girls have them”. But she said that very few can afford for the branded items in Nepal.

Not everyone is brand conscious in Nepal. Not everyone can afford it. This is the view of Kiran Limbu, who is currently in the States. He shares his knowledge which he read on the online paper that the clothes or accessories that are brought to Nepal are under standard quality but overpriced. He says that being a brand conscious is like a form of loyalty for particular choices. According to him, everything comes in brands from clothes to utensils in the US. He feels it is important to be a brand conscious because every penny is hard earned money so people do want to spend it on right things. Along with being brand conscious, he suggests one should buy the things which are good, durable and having return policy, customer care or reputations. He also said that one should not run after big names just because they advertise more.

“I’m a branded guy”, says Shyam Magar. “Especially, if it comes to technologies, my cell phones, and my external hard disk are branded ones”. He, too, likes to be in branded get- ups. He feels that it shows ones personality. He further added that brands are not much valued in Nepal although the trend of brands is slowly rising in the country. “This is due to the entry of the Western culture. It’s good anyway because brands should be valued. People should spend money on the right things”, he added. He says some people do not like to wear the branded outfits or buy branded things because they think that to be too preppy.

Rajesh Rai shares a different view. He says, “I am not into brands because I think the concept of neat and tidy doesn't relate with brand products. But I think people use brand products to impress others as a way of socializing”. He believes in decent get- ups and as for the brand accessories, he finds that anything could be preferable unless they are completely out of order.

Stable or not, branded items have hit the international market and it doesn’t seem that long for the rapid change in the fashion of Nepal, too, when at the most, every salesperson are trying to compete by showing off their branded wears and accessories.
